SSAB is a global steel company aiming to be the first to bring fossil-free steel to the market in 2026. John Deere Forestry Oy will replace some of the steel used in the manufacturing of forest machines with sustainably produced steel starting in 2026. John Deere Forestry Oy’s responsibility target for sustainably manufactured products is 65% by 2030.
Fossil-free steel is manufactured using a technology that replaces coal with hydrogen in the iron ore reduction process. The result is the elimination of the fossil carbon emissions. The steel will be produced at SSAB’s hybrid plant in Oxelösund, Sweden.
“We at SSAB, we are excited to work with forward-looking professionals. Cooperation makes it easier to develop a sustainable value chain and we have a common goal to build a path towards a fossil-free future,” says Lotta Ruottinen, Sales Director at SSAB Europe.
