The XXL Series by Atlas Weyhausen – Large wheel loaders, clean engines and new model designation

The construction equipment manufacturer, Atlas Weyhausen, is expanding its range of large wheel loaders. This includes the introduction of a new model designation and, in future, four new size classes: S, L, XL and XXL.
In future, in accordance with the stage 5 emissions standard set out by the EU, all diesel engines with an output over 19kW must be fitted with a diesel particle filter as a minimum. This, therefore, affects almost all wheel loaders made by Atlas Weyhausen. There will be a variety of solutions available which ensure compliance with the new emissions standard, depending on the output of the specific engine. Depending on the engine output, Atlas Weyhausen provides the technical solution DOC/ DPF or the combination DOC/ DPF/ SCR.
The new emissions standard was also the catalyst for a fundamental decision made at Atlas Weyhausen. In order to make it absolutely clear which models comply with the new standard, the manufacturer has decided to introduce a new model designation. The S series will therefore comprise the AR 300 and AR 320 models in future. The L series includes the AR 400 and AR 480 and the two types AR 480 S (swivel loader) and AR 480T (telescopic loader). The XL series contains the models from AR 500 to AR 580, the AR 620 to AR 680 are found in the XXL series.
In the heavy-duty XXL series with engine outputs in excess of 100kW and the DOC/ DPF/ SCR exhaust gas treatment system, Atlas Weyhausen now offers four models which build on the technology used in the AR 250e wheel loader. The following new models will also set the bar a little higher in their size categories: the weycor AR 620 with 115kW (12.8t / 2.3m³), the AR 640 with 129kW (13.3t / 2.5m³), the AR 660 with 160kW (14t / 2.7m³), and the weycor AR 680 with 160kW (14.9t / 2.9m³). With these models, it is possible to select speeds between 20 and 50km/h.
Atlas Weyhausen is also revving up its eco-friendly engines in the XL series. The engine in the weycor AR 500 (6.2t / 1.2m³) is a high-torque engine, the same as used in the weycor AR 530 (7t / 1.3m³) and offers sufficient reserves for a wheel loader in this size category. The DOC/ DPF system is used for both models.
The other wheel loaders in the XL series are fitted with the DOC/ DPF/ SCR combination for exhaust gas treatment. The weycor AR 520 (6.3t / 1.2m³) with an 80kW engine now has an even higher output, a greater weight and comes fitted with an Add Blue exhaust gas purification system (SCR), just like the larger models. The maximum speed is 40km/h.
The 85kW (7.9t / 1.4m³) AR 550 is also being sold as a sprinter. This is also the case with the 95kW (8.2t / 1.5m³) weycor AR 560 and the 100kW (9.2t / 1.6m³) AR 580. These new engine configurations already meet the new stage 5 emissions standard.
In the medium-sized range, L, Atlas Weyhausen offers six types of wheel loader with new engines with outputs between 46 and 54kW which also fulfil the requirements for stage 5 as of 2019. The 46kW AR 400 (4.6t / 0.8m³) and the 54kW AR 420 (5.3t / 1.0m³), like all models in the L series, come fitted with the combination DOC and DPF.
The AR 440 (5.4t / 1.1m³) is a new addition to the range. However, the 54kW AR 480 (5,76t / 1,1m³) is another evolution of a successful predecessor model. Furthermore, the product range also includes a swivel loader, the AR480S (6.28t / 0.8m³) as well as a telescopic loader, the AR 480T (6t / 1m³).
The S series includes two types with an 18.9kW engine, the AR 300 (2.1t / 0.3m³) and the AR 320 model (2.5t / 0.4m³ and 2.75t / 0.5 m³). No further exhaust treatment system is required for these models. Further models are planned for the future. All these models can be found at bauma 2019.
