Contractors working in confined spaces often require versatile and simple-to-operate excavators. Their work sometimes requires machines that fit through narrow passageways while providing high-performance outcomes. The new Cat 301 Compact Radius (CR) micro hydraulic excavator is designed to do just that.

The Cat 301 CR delivers advanced machine performance for indoor, demolition, agricultural and landscaping applications through simple, easy-to-use operating systems.

The machine can fit through 30- by 78-in (762- by 1981-mm) doorways while its compact radius design minimizes machine overhang to work in tight spaces. Its expandable undercarriage delivers improved stability and increases lift capacity compared to its predecessor, the Cat 300.9D.

“Customers asked for a machine in the one-ton class that is simple and comfortable to operate, while offering stability for lifting heavy weights. Our new 301 CR excavator delivers,” says Zach Waite, commercial director for Caterpillar Industry Solutions. “To enhance stability, the 301 CR is 26% wider than the 300.9D, with a fully expanded undercarriage. We also increased lift capacity by more than 80% from the 300.9D to elevate machine performance and flexibility in the field.”

Also, a foldable Roll Over Protection Structure (ROPS) allows the machine to travel through height-restricted openings when folded and provides operator protection when raised and secured for operation.

Performance enhancements
With a maximum operating weight of 2,712 lb (1230 kg) and a folded ROPS height of less than 72 in (1829 mm), the 301 CR offers simple transport:
• Top travel speed up to 2.2 mph (3.6 km/h) to quickly move around the jobsite
• Extended track width from 28.7 to 43.3 in (730 to 1100 mm) for enhanced stability
• 38% higher stick force than the 300.9D of 1394 lb (6.2 kN)
• 2,158 lb (9.6 kN) bucket force, 8% higher than the 300.9D, helps improve productivity in tough digging conditions
• A maximum lift capacity of 868 lb (394 kg) at a 3-ft (0.91-m) height and 6-ft (1.83-m) radius to the front
• VisionLink gives owner/operators insights into operating hours and location for the Cat 301 CR

Attachments expand flexibility
With Caterpillar’s range of purpose-built attachments, the new Cat 301 CR adapts to changing jobsite demands, enabling customers to get the most out of the machine.
• Pin Puller Coupler design enables fast and easy attachment changes without tools, helping reduce downtime and allowing operators to efficiently move between tasks
• The new A13 Auger features a cast auger drive unit housing for durability and slim drive design
• Optimizing machine reach height and flight unloading, the A13 flights are 12 in (305 mm) shorter than current flight of equivalent diameters
• The 301 CR is compatible with the B1 Pin On hammer for quickly breaking up concrete and asphalt
• Newly designed general-purpose buckets are designed to excel in trenching applications with a smooth edge and wide profile
• Three bolt-on teeth deliver easy tooth removal and replacement for long bucket life
• Drain holes make Cat ditch cleaning buckets ideal for moving cohesive, wet material
