The new Vermeer D60S horizontal directional drill delivers power, efficiency and operator comfort

Vermeer has announced the launch of the D60S horizontal directional drill for customers in the European markets. Leveraging proven Vermeer drill designs, the D60S horizontal directional drill offers reliable performance, ease of service and elevated operator comfort.

“The D60S Generation 3 reflects continued focus by Verrmeer on delivering practical, high-performance solutions tailored to the needs of European contractors,” said Mike Byram, vice president of Infrastructure Solutions and Engineering at Vermeer.

“Its compact footprint, strong thrust capability and operator centered design make it well suited for demanding urban and utility installations. The ‘S’ designation signifies a model developed specifically for select markets, and in the case of Generation 3 of the D60S product line, it was driven directly by requirements identified by the Vermeer Europe team in close collaboration with our customers there. By leveraging the Vermeer global engineering, manufacturing and support capabilities, we were able to bring a robust, market specific solution to market quickly and efficiently. The D60S is a strong example of how Vermeer combines global expertise with local market insight — it is built by Vermeer, supported by Vermeer, and designed for European contractors to be truly Equipped to Do More!”

With an optimized thrust/pullback power of 266.8 kN (60,000 lb) and12,202 Nm (9,000 ft. lb) of torque, the D60S is qualified for a large range of installation specifications, even in congested urban jobsites. Equipped with a 225-hp (168-kW) Cat C7.1 Stage V engine that provides high horsepower for powerful drilling, the D60S can be tracked and maneuvered around jobsites with ease.

Its high-capacity rod system and large Kerr mud pump enables it to drill for long and large distances. The quick-change rod box option minimizes the need to manually load additional drill rod, improving overall efficiency.

The D60S has an improved cabin interior for greater operator comfort. The center controls and screen are strategically positioned to give more leg space to the operator and help enhance overall comfort. The seat has also been positioned at an angle for optimal visibility to the vises and drill rod connections during rod make-up and break-out. The D60S will be available in select countries across Europe.
