Jungheinrich presented the mobile robot solution of the future at LogiMAT 2023. Thanks to the optimal interaction of Autonomous Mobile Robot, control system and toolchain, it can be easily integrated into any warehouse, where it increases performance and efficiency. Jungheinrich’s latest mobile robot solution had its world premiere at LogiMAT 2023 in Stuttgart. The EAE 212a is an Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) of the latest generation, including a newly developed control system and toolchain.

The harmonized interaction of all three components enables the solution to be integrated particularly smoothly into any existing warehouse environment and guarantees great flexibility from the planning stage to day-to-day operations. “When used in the warehouse, the EAE 212a impresses with its simple integration, maximum flexibility and scalability. It thus embodies nothing less than the future of intralogistics,” said Christian Erlach, Jungheinrich Board Member for Sales.

Latest generation AMR
The EAE 212a is designed for the automation of low-level applications. Thanks to its Jungheinrich-patented chassis design, its width of just 790 mm is even narrower than a Euro pallet. This enables manoeuvrable and agile floor-to-floor transports at speeds of up to 6 km/h. At the same time, the vehicle can move loads weighing up to 1.2 t safely and stably. “As a low-level vehicle, the EAE 212a optimally complements our existing mobile robot portfolio and is perfectly suited for the supply and disposal of incoming and outgoing goods lanes,” says Erlach. The EAE 212a navigates entirely without any artificial landmarks. Time-consuming preparatory measures in the warehouse are thus a thing of the past.

Easy integration into existing warehouses
In developing its new mobile robot solution, Jungheinrich placed particular emphasis on the ideal interaction of hardware and software as well as their networking and integration into the overall system. In order to create a comprehensive solution, the company used its extensive know-how of material handling equipment as well as its process and software expertise and focused on an end-to-end toolchain with its proprietary Jungheinrich Mobile Robot Control (MRC). The Jungheinrich MRC includes central order management, truck control, a modelling tool and real-time visualization. Thanks to the new modelling tool, project planning for the mobile robot solution based on the EAE 212a is possible within a few hours; for simple projects, this is even possible within just 30 minutes.

Scalability for the future
The new toolchain, an integral part of the mobile robot solution, enables fast and uncomplicated adaptation of traffic and travel areas when needs and requirements in a warehouse change. In this way, additional EAE 212a AMRs can be easily added to a warehouse and projects can be expanded at short notice. Jungheinrich’s new mobile robot solution is thus designed for maximum scalability. The EAE 212a can be used as a stand-alone solution or connected to the existing host system in the warehouse. Thanks to control system compatibility based on the VDA-5050 standard and a future-proof software platform, the mobile robot solution is geared to handle any future challenges in the warehouse environment.

Flexibility in use
Thanks to its high degree of autonomy, the EAE 212a finds its own solutions during operation: It can flexibly avoid obstacles and continues its work even without human intervention. Thanks to its target recognition, the EAE 212a is also able to detect pallets that are not exactly in their desired position. This makes it possible to integrate the system into manual processes, even in a cluttered warehouse.

Human-machine interaction
During the development of the EAE 212a, Jungheinrich also focused on simple and intuitive communication between man and machine. With immediate and unambiguous information at the control station, LED strips for clear visibility at a distance or the display at close range, the human colleagues of the EAE 212a have all important information in view when needed. This helps the mobile robot solution to achieve a high level of acceptance among employees.
